Three thousand vertical feet of mountain rise directly behind the lodge. The backcountry
terrain of Downing Mountain will excite you. With 500 to 2500 vertical foot slopes
ranging from intermediate to advanced, put Downing Mountain Lodge at the top of
your list of backcountry ski lodges to visit. An average settled snow depth of
three feet at the lodge by March 1 guarantees access on a snow covered road for

borders U.S. Forest service lands immediately to the west. Atop Downing Mountain
ridge, the northeast aspect's first four bowls accumulate a 6-9 foot snowpack
by March 1. Downing Mountain and Canyon Peak rest along the further reaches of
the ridge challenging ski mountaineers with long days and fabulous bowl bouncing
back to the quiet warmth of the lodge.
